The last Saturday in August proved to be a particularly memorable night at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks. First being the running of two guest classes for the evening. PA Wings is a racing club that travels from track to track, week after week, and they run an unlimited Wing class of Kart. Sixteen of them registered to run in the Feature and Brandon Hetrick took the checkered flag in his kart, which had a massive exhaust pipe and a 500cc (I’m told through the grapevine) motor. He ate up the rest of the class in that beast. If you’d like more information about the PA Wings follow this URL: (http://www.pa-wings.org/).
Joining the PA Wings as a guest class were the Unlimited All-Stars (UAS). To my eyes, the UAS karts had the silhouette worth of Bruce Wayne’s Bat mobile (and I say that in an adoring way). The UAS started in Western PA back in 1990; an open class designed primarily for dirt ovals, and has expanded south to Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas. The night’s UAS Feature contained a field of 12 with Bob Windle taking the win. (http://www.unlimitedallstars.org/).
For our regular show, two unstoppable drivers continue their win streaks. Jenna Yarger and Randy Boston took their seventh consecutive win in the Junior and Heavy Features, respectively.
In Rookie Blue, Logan Leiby returned to the winner’s circle, edging out Stone Phillips. Kile Roeder, last week’s winner, taking third. In Adult Cage, Scott Halye drove an excellent race to win the Feature. Chase Morris finally regained some of his mojo from earlier in the season to get the checkered in Rookie Purple. After taking second place last week, young Brayden Spencer secured a victory in the Kid Kart Feature.
Also riding a five-week win streak is Brian Fox in the Mini Micro Class. Again, he took the checkered flag. Make it two weeks and two wins for Sammy Crone in a Green-to-Checkered Rookie Feature. A good night for the Crones, as Rusty Crone also took a victory in the Regular Feature. Hard Charger goes to Denny Rinehimer in the 270cc Regulars, starting 14 and finishing fifth.
In the 600’s, John Gearhart gets the win in the Feature, his tenth on the year (at least that’s what he told me), the most in the season. The win was doubly special for Johnny because on that very night, ten years ago, he and his wife Sheila were married.
And we coin the ‘You Go Girl’ Award for Jessica Miller. That Saturday, she played three soccer games, took second in the Regular 270cc Feature and then won the 125cc Feature. What else can you say except…You Go Girl!!
There you have it, each week more excitement, more interesting story lines, and bigger crowds. Grab your pals for a fun Saturday night at the best dirt oval in the whole North East of the U.S. of A.
It’s great racing, delicious food, and fine folk. We’ll see you out there! (Jonny Pass)
